Prepare for you Baja Grande Camp La Ventana

La Ventana is located on the Sea of Cortez in southern Baja, 2.5 hrs north of Cabo San Lucas/San Jose, and 45 minutes east of La Paz.  It’s a lightly populated Mexican town made up of small local businesses and fisherman and has attracted a diverse population of part-time and full-time thrill seekers that have come to enjoy the windy winter season.

Guests are responsible to book their flight to either San Jose del Cabo or La Paz.  Airport shuttles will be provided from the airport to Casa Palmar and for the return.

Wind and Water and Weather Conditions

Beginning as early in October, the winds begin to build their strength and consistency throughout the winter and then start to fade in the spring months of April and May.  Winds are thermal/pressure produced, as the hot desert heat draws in the cooler northern air being funneled southward through the Sea or Cortez.  Morning winds are typically totally calm, making for perfect flat water conditions.  By midday, wind speeds frequently reach into mid 20’s attracting everyone out on the water.  Then around 5-6pm, the wind begins to fade away, leaving nice, warm and tranquil evenings.  Swell size can vary between very small and light surface chop to larger 6 ft plus swells on the big days, creating a variety of conditions that are both fun and challenging for all abilities.  Water temperatures vary between 65-75 degrees with air temperatures reaching in the 80’s(F) during the day and 60’s(F) in the night.  Sunny conditions persist throughout the winter, though it is possible to witness a day or two of light rain.

Gear to Bring

If you’re bringing gear, bring it all!  There’s a good chance you’ll need that size that you’re considering leaving at home.  But if you want to leave certain sizes or boards, you’ll be able to rent gear down there.  Wetsuits are good idea to bring in a 3/2-4/3 thickness.  You could probably have a short session without a wearing one, but added warm and sun protection they provide make them pretty essential.  If you don’t have one, there’ll be one for you when you get down there.  If you’re booking a lesson package, all the gear will provided.

Cancellation Policy

Accommodation and Lesson Packages are paid in full with KiteTheBay and are final.  Cancellations maybe be made 60 days before the trip date and guests will receive a 50% refund.  Cancellations made within 60 days of the starting camp date will not receive any refund but guests will have the opportunity to book a later camp in the current season at no extra charge. If the wind and weather does not allow for for windy activities on certain days, there will be no lesson refunds given.
